Finding the actual fault
A diagnosis is not a guess. It is a process of narrowing down what is actually wrong, using the car’s own data, proper test equipment and the experience to know what the readings mean.
Scan and read the data
We connect to the vehicle’s systems and pull the stored fault codes, along with the live data the engine was seeing when the fault occurred. A code is a starting point, not an answer — the same code can have half a dozen different causes.
Test, don’t assume
From there we test the parts the code implicates: sensors, wiring, pressures, voltages and mechanical condition. This is the step that separates a real diagnosis from parts-swapping, and it is why we would rather spend an hour testing than have you pay for a part you never needed.
Check the mechanical basics
Plenty of faults that look electronic are mechanical underneath — a vacuum leak, a worn timing component, low compression, a cooling system that isn’t holding pressure. We check the fundamentals before we chase anything exotic.
Explain it in plain language
You get a straight explanation of what we found, what it will take to fix, and what it will cost. If there is more than one way to approach it, we will tell you the options and what each one buys you.
Worth getting checked
Any of these are worth a diagnostic rather than waiting to see if they get worse.
- A warning light that has come on or keeps returning
- Rough idling, hesitation, misfiring or stalling
- Fuel economy that has quietly got worse
- A noise, knock or vibration that changes with speed
- Hard starting, or a car that cranks but won’t fire
- Overheating, or a heater blowing cold
Most faults are cheapest to fix when they first appear. If your car is doing something new, ring us on (08) 9277 4550.
